FAO champions multistakeholder partnerships to build sustainable food and agriculture systems, addressing hunger, climate change, and rural poverty. The World Banana Forum (WBF) exemplifies this, showcasing the banana sector as a global model for inclusive, climate-smart value chains. This collaboration among producers, governments, and retailers advances sustainability, fairness, and resilience through initiatives like living wages and responsible purchasing.
This event aims to raise awareness of partnerships' role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promote the WBF as a replicable model for other agricultural sectors. For more information, visit the FAO Partnerships page and the World Banana Forum.
Forests are vital for climate action, biodiversity, and livelihoods, yet intensifying pressures demand smart data. This article explores how global reporting processes—such as the FAO’s Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change's Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs)—connect crucial forest and climate data.
Aligning this data reduces reporting burdens, strengthens national capacities, and supports more effective policies for forests, people, and the climate. For a deeper understanding, read the technical brief: “Branching out: Synergies in forest assessments and climate transparency reporting.”

The FAO, funded by the World Bank's Emergency Food Security Project (EFSP), has launched a large-scale seed commercialization initiative in Afghanistan. This program addresses challenges like farmer liquidity, seed affordability, and weak market linkages, with flexible delivery arrangements to support women farmers facing additional barriers.
Through a co-payment electronic voucher system, farmers access certified wheat seed directly from Private Seed Enterprises. The project covers 50% of the seed cost, with farmers contributing the rest. This approach strengthens farmer ownership, stimulates demand, and aims to commercialize the seed sector, reinforcing domestic markets and increasing wheat production.
