In 2025, buyers from two cooperatives—one in Kenya growing coffee and another in Colombia growing cacao—requested proof that their farms were deforestation-free. Most smallholders lacked this proof.
Using FAO's free, open-source Open Foris solutions, they mapped their farms, maintained their data, and gained unexpected insights about their members. Here is their story, in their words.

Sustainable agricultural mechanization is crucial for transforming agrifood systems in Asia and the Pacific. FAO Assistant Director-General Alue Dohong emphasizes the need for enhanced regional cooperation and collective action ahead of the first Asia-Pacific Conference on Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (APSAM).
Scheduled for 23-26 November 2026 in Manila, Philippines, APSAM 2026 will focus on the theme “Modernize. Scale. Sustain.” The conference aims to unite stakeholders to share experiences, explore innovative solutions, and identify opportunities for increased regional collaboration.

This video highlights the FISH4ACP program, which connects artisanal fishers in the Dominican Republic to high-value markets through the marketing channel La Ruta del Dorado. The mahi-mahi, or dorado, is crucial for the income and nutrition of these fishers.
FISH4ACP aims to enhance the mahi-mahi value chain by making it more profitable, inclusive, and sustainable. The program provides training in fish handling and strengthens the cold chain to improve product freshness and pricing. FISH4ACP is implemented by the FAO with support from the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
