On April 23, 2026, the FAO’s Office of Innovation hosted a global webinar for International Girls in ICT Day. This event, part of a worldwide initiative led by the International Telecommunication Union and aligned with the International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026, highlighted the empowerment of girls in ICT as both an equity issue and a strategic investment for future agrifood systems.

The webinar featured opening remarks by Henry van Burgsteden, Senior Innovation Officer, and moderation by Alessia Correani, Innovation Officer. A diverse panel included Huda Alsahi (FAO), Isabella Chancahuana Castillo (youth leadership, WFF & Huawei), and Buyiswa Twala (CEO, Agrigreat Soiltech&Envirocare), providing valuable insights.
