The Strait of Hormuz has been closed since February 28, halting vessel traffic and creating an emerging supply gap. This critical waterway previously handled 30-35% of global crude oil, 20% of natural gas, and up to 30% of internationally traded fertilizers.
While existing stocks currently prevent immediate food price hikes, continued closure will lead to higher energy, fertilizer, and commodity prices by late 2026/2027. Farmers face increased input costs, requiring urgent support, especially for low-income, import-dependent nations. This global disruption, exacerbated by potential export restrictions, demands timely diplomatic and policy interventions to avert a global food crisis.

The PRODAI project establishes multi-strata agroforestry, combining native wood, fruit trees, and biomass crops. This restores soil, reduces erosion, diversifies livelihoods, and captures carbon. Fifteen nurseries have produced over 250,000 seedlings, involving 3,000+ farmers. Linking producers to voluntary carbon markets (Acorn, Plan Vivo) creates new income and strengthens resilience. The goal: 1 million seedlings, 3,000 hectares restored, fostering a sustainable future.
