However, their overuse and misuse in both human medicine and agriculture drive Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), leading to the failure of vital antibiotics. Farmers often struggle to access proper guidance and treatments for animal health.
To combat this, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Health Organization (WHO), and World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) collaborate through a 'One Health' approach. They develop responsible antimicrobial use guidelines, strengthen surveillance, and enhance public awareness of AMR, particularly in the Philippines.

FAO, supported by Italy and the Government of Mozambique, is empowering farmers in Manica Province to combat climate change, soil degradation, and low productivity. Through the PRODAI project, communities establish multi-strata agroforestry systems, combining native timber, fruit trees, and biomass crops to restore soils, reduce erosion, and diversify livelihoods.
Fifteen community nurseries have already produced over 250,000 seedlings, engaging more than 3,000 farmers. By capturing carbon and connecting producers to voluntary carbon markets like Acorn and Plan Vivo, agroforestry creates new income opportunities and strengthens resilience. The goal is to restore 3,000 hectares with 1 million seedlings, planting a sustainable future. Learn more at [FAO](http://www.fao.org).
The regional launch of the International Year of Rural Women aims to integrate this initiative into FAO's regional priorities and Member State agreements. Coinciding with International Women's Day, this event highlights the vital work of rural women, promoting their empowerment and reducing inequalities within the region's agri-food systems.
Taking place during the FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC39), the launch underscores the strategic role of rural women in the agri-food systems of Latin America and the Caribbean.
