Farming and Food Production
Fred Kirschenmann, Distinguished Fellow at the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, asserts that organic farming doesn't automatically equate to sustainability. He advocates for a shift from a "steady state" to "resiliency," noting that "greening up" isn't enough.
Kirschenmann, a third-generation organic farmer and long-time leader, highlights the unsustainable depletion of finite energy (hydrocarbons) and water resources. He warns that technology alone cannot provide substitute solutions. This insight stems from his talk at the Organicology conference.
The "Guerrilla Gardening Skate" video documents urban gardener Alex Lee Chang. He uses his skateboard to plant seeds and flowers in unsanctioned public spaces, such as road dividers, transforming neglected areas.
Directed by Remi Bouvier (eggheads) and produced by Fumihiko Okabe (vallicans), the project also features camera work by Riei Nakagawara (C-boyz) and music by Ponchi (C-boyz).
"The End of the Line" is a powerful film exposing the critical issue of overfishing. Advanced technology threatens entire wild fish species, with key food stocks predicted to collapse by 2050.
The film identifies those responsible, including celebrity chefs, and outlines solutions. More than just a documentary, it's a campaign advocating for sustainable fish consumption, marine protected areas for ocean recovery, and a new ethic of responsible fishing.
David Holmgren, co-originator of the permaculture concept, authored *PERMACULTURE: Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability*. He challenges the belief that "green tech" can enable global "sustainable consumption," asserting that diminishing oil reserves will inevitably lead to a mandatory "energy descent" for human civilization.
Holmgren advocates for permaculture principles as the most effective framework for a peaceful societal "powering down."
This 2-minute excerpt is from a 57-minute documentary on traditional diets. Shot in eleven countries, the film was produced in our Byron Bay editing suite.

Scientist, activist, and author Vandana Shiva advocates for saving non-GMO seeds and her concept of 'Earth Democracy.' She highlights the tragic reality of 150,000 farmer suicides, often linked to the high cost of purchasing seeds from companies like Monsanto.
Shiva emphasizes the critical importance of ecosystem conservation and the role individuals play as conservers. Her work aligns with broader themes of justice, peace, compassion, and sustainability. For more information, visit EON3.net.
The University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment (IonE) addresses critical global challenges, including how to sustainably feed a growing population.
This slideshow explores the intersection of agriculture and population dynamics. For more information, visit environment.umn.edu.
Ethan Schaffer, a 2002 Brower Youth Award recipient, founded Organic Volunteers.
This national program promotes sustainability and organic food systems through outreach and education.
