Dan Pingaro serves as Executive Director of Sailors for the Sea, the sole ocean conservation nonprofit dedicated to the sailing and boating community. His career path demonstrates a profound commitment to organizational growth and advocating for a clean, healthy ocean.
Pingaro's passion, experience, education, and collaborative approach have been pivotal to Sailors for the Sea's success and its significant impact on ocean conservation efforts.
He was interviewed by Ruth Ann Barrett, with videographer David Okimoto of EarthSayers.tv, at the America's Cup Finals in San Francisco on September 10, 2013.
Olympic gold medalist Jill Savery is a leading expert in sports sustainability. As Head of Sustainability for the America's Cup Event Authority, she has advised organizations including the United States Olympic Committee, the London 2012 Organizing Committee, and FIFA World Cup bid teams on embedding sustainable practices into their operations.
An International Swimming Hall of Fame inductee, Savery earned a Master's Degree from Yale University and coached athletes for over two decades. She frequently speaks on sustainability and sport, and co-edited the book *Sustainability and Sport*, available on Amazon. She was interviewed by Ruth Ann Barrett of EarthSayers.tv in September 2013 at the America's Cup finals.
In an October 2013 interview with Bill Moyers, author Wendell Berry—hailed as a "prophet of responsibility" and "passionate advocate for the Earth"—shared his views on leadership.
Berry believes true leadership emerges from the bottom up. It involves individuals who identify a need and act on it. He asserts that success is not the primary concern; rather, the fundamental question is, "What's the Right Thing to do?"
The Prince's International Sustainability Unit video, featured on The Royal Channel, emphasizes the need for cooperation and consensus-building across all economic sectors—business, non-profit, and NGO. It promotes an ecosystem approach to management, advocating for the global scaling of proven good practices, particularly in fisheries.
The video also includes segments on water, executive education, and the Natural Capital Leadership Platform, which convenes leaders. A key point raised is that "We're not valuing natural capital and the services provided by nature herself."

PwC's Matt Shelhorse and Duke University's Dan Ariely discussed the psychology of deviant behavior, noting that individuals often rationalize corruption despite potential penalties. Ariely highlighted that addressing corruption requires tackling multi-faceted conflicts of interest, establishing clearer rules, and reducing rationalization. He stressed that disclosure alone is insufficient.
To combat corruption effectively, we must recognize our influence and eliminate conflicts of interest whenever possible.
