Governing Climate-Altering Technologies in the Arctic with Sir David King (Part 2)

Sir David King, former UK chief scientific adviser, recently discussed the governance of climate-altering technologies in the Arctic with the Carnegie Climate Governance Initiative (C2G).

He joined two C2G sessions at the 2019 Arctic Circle Assembly on October 10th. There, scientists, policy experts, indigenous activists, and civil society representatives explored critical questions facing decision-makers regarding the Arctic's future. AI and Technology: Paving Solutions in the Climate Change Crisis by Karan Sood |

In his TEDx talk, Karan Sood discussed AI and technology's transformative role in addressing climate change. He highlighted how AI-driven innovations enhance climate prediction, optimize energy, and develop sustainable solutions, emphasizing AI's potential to reduce carbon footprints and accelerate a resilient future.

Sood is CEO and co-founder of Fastor7, a global digital transformation company. An IIT Delhi graduate with six years of entrepreneurial experience, he's featured in Forbes and CNBC TV18. He also led the impactful CovidMealsForIndia.com initiative, connecting 5 lakh people to food during the pandemic, earning a Community Championships Award.

2019 Was the 2nd-Hottest Year on Record

Independent analyses by NASA and NOAA confirm that Earth's global surface temperatures in 2019 ranked as the second-warmest since 1880. Temperatures were 2°F (1.1°C) warmer than the late 19th century, second only to 2016.

 

 

 

This data continues the planet's long-term warming trend, with the five warmest years on instrumental record all occurring in the last five years. More information is available at NASA's press release.

#CCL2025 Fall Conference: More Carbon Pricing Updates from Around the World

Carbon pricing is rapidly advancing worldwide, with significant developments like the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and new initiatives in Canada and Mexico. CCL Policy Fellow Dr. Danny Richter will provide a global overview, highlighting how America’s trading partners are using carbon pricing to cut pollution, level the playing field, and drive clean innovation.

Global Warming from 1880 to 2022 by NASA

NASA reported that Earth's average surface temperature in 2022 tied with 2015 as the fifth warmest on record, continuing the planet's long-term warming trend.

Global temperatures were 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit (0.89 degrees Celsius) above the 1951-1980 baseline average, according to scientists from NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS).

At COP 15 in Copenhagen, Hub Culture journalist Edie Lush interviewed Sarah Severn, Nike's Director of Stakeholder Partnerships. Severn discussed the current progress of climate legislation within the United States.

She also highlighted the BICEP partnership, a coalition of 17 global companies actively advocating for comprehensive climate change legislation.
