Sir David King, former UK chief scientific adviser, recently discussed the governance of climate-altering technologies in the Arctic with the Carnegie Climate Governance Initiative (C2G).
He joined two C2G sessions at the 2019 Arctic Circle Assembly on October 10th. There, scientists, policy experts, indigenous activists, and civil society representatives explored critical questions facing decision-makers regarding the Arctic's future. Learn more about Sir David King's insights on the Arctic here.
Boudreaux, President & CEO, discusses Oberon Fuels' mission to decarbonize the fuel and energy sectors. The company aims to slash the environmental impact of fuels, particularly in hard-to-abate areas like heavy-duty transportation and agriculture.
Oberon achieves this through renewable dimethyl ether (rDME). Their low or carbon-negative rDME fuel can reduce LPG's carbon intensity by up to 60% when blended, potentially cutting global CO2 by 750 million metric tons annually. rDME also offers a compelling approach for transporting hydrogen for its fast-growing applications.
Introducing the keynote "Sustainable is the New Profitable. Green is the New Digital," this video highlights decarbonizing our economy as the decade's biggest challenge and opportunity. Accelerated by the Corona crisis, this shift will bring inevitable carbon taxes and the end of fossil fuel subsidies. The circular economy will be paramount by 2030.
Companies and individuals must understand and adapt to this tectonic move towards sustainability to thrive, or risk obsolescence. Learn how to prosper in this era. Chief Phil Lane of the Four World's International Institute advocates for balance and harmony, emphasizing humanity as one family. This message was shared in December 2015.
Lane also led a climate change demonstration in Los Angeles. Footage of this event is available here.
Despite scientific consensus on human-induced global warming, former US President Donald Trump has consistently denied its human origins. In 2012, he famously claimed climate change was "a hoax invented by the Chinese to make US manufacturing less competitive."
This political stance, compounded by the pandemic, has significantly hindered environmental progress. SustainabilityX magazine summarizes Trump's impact and offers a "what not to do" list to inspire action for the new year.
Feeling anxious about climate change can lead to overwhelm and shutdown, a concept environmental psychologist Dr. Renee Lertzman calls our "window of tolerance." Exceeding this threshold can immobilize us, preventing effective engagement.
Dr. Lertzman's unique approach integrates behavioral, social, and design sciences. She offers psychological tools to acknowledge these anxieties, creating conditions that empower individuals to move past immobilization and contribute their brilliant selves to social change.
While climate science can be abstract, powerful storytelling through photographs and films can inspire a personal response to the crisis. Join us for a conversation on visualizing climate change with acclaimed storytellers: filmmaker Céline Cousteau, director Davis Guggenheim, and photographer Cristina Mittermeier. Greg Dalton of Climate One will host this insightful discussion.
