Jim Skea and Martial Bernoux highlight the critical need for carbon dioxide removal as the world nears the 1.5°C limit. The FAO emphasizes agriculture's central role, offering major carbon sequestration opportunities via improved soil management for both mitigation and adaptation.
Farmers already face climate impacts, making food system resilience crucial. The main challenge is translating global commitments into concrete action to achieve climate, resilience, and food security goals.

Recreational fisheries are crucial to Mediterranean and Black Sea coastal economies and culture, yet they remain poorly documented. Limited and inconsistent data collection across countries hinders effective policymaking.
To address these significant knowledge gaps, the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) launched a dedicated research programme in 2024. This initiative, rolled out in 13 countries, applies standardized data collection regionally, making fisher collaboration essential. The ultimate goal is to strengthen sustainable fisheries management. For more information, visit the GFCM website: https://www.fao.org/gfcm/en/

Afghan farmers struggle with market access, limiting productivity. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), supported by the World Bank, is strengthening agricultural value chains by improving input access and linking farmers to markets.
This approach is exemplified in Kapisa province, where an Afghan woman entrepreneur, Mahmooda, leads a local seed and soybean processing company. Awarded a World Bank grant, her business expands production, creates jobs, and improves market access, fostering private sector-led growth in Afghanistan's agrifood sector.

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious, economically significant transboundary animal disease, impacting food security, livelihoods, and trade. Recent SAT1 spread to Europe and Asia, and an upsurge of multiple serotypes in southern Africa, highlight the urgent need for global coordination and national actions.
This webinar will overview the global FMD situation, covering epidemiological trends, risk pathways, and how countries can enhance risk monitoring, outbreak investigation, surveillance, and response.
