About This Collection

Founder Kenny Ausubel coined the term Bioneers in 1990 to describe an emerging culture. Bioneers are social and scientific innovators from all walks of life and disciplines who have peered deep into the heart of living systems to understand how nature operates, and to mimic "nature's operating instructions" to serve human ends without harming the web of life.

The Bioneers Conference is a leading-edge forum presenting breakthrough solutions for people and planet. Check out Bioneers on YouTube.

Merlin Sheldrake - How Fungi Make our Worlds

Fungi, a diverse and largely unseen kingdom, sustain nearly all living systems through ancient mycorrhizal networks. Despite their critical role, climate change and conservation efforts largely overlook them, focusing on plants and animals. This oversight is detrimental, as destroying fungal networks accelerates climate change, biodiversity loss, and disrupts vital global nutrient cycles.

Biologist Merlin Sheldrake, author of *Entangled Life*, emphasizes fungi's critical importance. He discusses the visionary work of the Society for the Protection of Underground Networks (SPUN) in mapping and protecting global mycorrhizal communities, alongside research on carbon and nutrient flow within these networks. This keynote was delivered at the 2024 Bioneers Conference.
