{"id":776,"date":"2011-10-07T17:53:10","date_gmt":"2011-10-07T17:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/earthsayers.tv\/sustainabilityadvocate\/?p=776"},"modified":"2011-10-07T20:23:16","modified_gmt":"2011-10-07T20:23:16","slug":"update-on-strategy-society-abolish-corporate-personhood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/earthsayers.tv\/sustainabilityadvocate\/?p=776","title":{"rendered":"Update on Strategy &#038; Society: Abolish Corporate Personhood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-777\" href=\"https:\/\/earthsayers.tv\/sustainabilityadvocate\/?attachment_id=777\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-777\" title=\"Abolish Corporate Personhood\" src=\"https:\/\/earthsayers.tv\/sustainabilityadvocate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Abolish-Corporate-Personhood.png\" alt=\"Abolish Corporate Personhood\" width=\"150\" height=\"105\" \/><\/a>In my<a title=\"Michael Porter\" href=\"https:\/\/earthsayers.tv\/sustainabilityadvocate\/?p=751\" target=\"_blank\"> last post<\/a> about Michael Porter&#8217;s article, <em>Strategy &amp; Society, The Link Between Competitive Advantage and Corporate Social Responsibility<\/em>, I noted his view of corporations as  individuals, a giant organism and their supposed<strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">self<\/span><\/strong>-interest.\u00a0 I suggested this view was dysfunctional &#8211; a hazard to achieving a successful and sustainable strategy.\u00a0 Little did I know that the same day I would be practicing citizen journalism with user generated content (the<a title=\"sustainability advocate\" href=\"https:\/\/earthsayers.tv\/sustainabilityadvocate\/?p=739\" target=\"_blank\"> two <\/a>blog <a title=\"sustainability advocate\" href=\"https:\/\/earthsayers.tv\/sustainabilityadvocate\/?p=732\" target=\"_blank\">posts<\/a> right before the one about Strategy &amp; Society) by covering the <a rel=\"attachment wp-att-778\" href=\"https:\/\/earthsayers.tv\/sustainabilityadvocate\/?attachment_id=778\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-778\" title=\"End Corporate Personhood 1\" src=\"https:\/\/earthsayers.tv\/sustainabilityadvocate\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/End-Corporate-Personhood-1.png\" alt=\"End Corporate Personhood 1\" width=\"150\" height=\"143\" \/><\/a><a title=\"Occupy Portland\" href=\"http:\/\/occupypdx.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Occupy Portland <\/a>gathering.\u00a0 As you will see in my video of the event, <a title=\"Occupy Portland: Signs and Voices\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/pdxdowntowner#p\/u\/0\/cNeszKDQnag\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Signs and Voices,<\/em><\/a> the issue of corporations as individuals was on the minds of many in the crowd. It&#8217;s a story stream that I am embedded in which actually began when I taped a <a title=\"Thom Hartman\" href=\"http:\/\/www.earthsayers.com\/details.php?id=16483&amp;kid=&amp;tid=0&amp;sid=&amp;show=10&amp;pg=1&amp;search_terms=thom\" target=\"_blank\">Thom Hartman<\/a> speech at the June 2010 Seattle Green Festival on this very subject. It&#8217;s posted to EarthSayers.tv, voices of sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>This has been my journey in thinking about corporations as individuals and it has led me to one conclusion.
