Equal Rights for Women and Girls

About This Collection

Equal Rights for Women is a major category, like energy or climate change, of sustainability and the voices in this collection are of the present and the past.

If we don't address human rights and social justice of which the sustainability keywords and phrases include children's rights and welfare; human trafficking, slavery, and women's rights and roles, then as David Korten points out, we will not be able to come to terms with the limits of the planet and not even technology will be able to save us.

A 16-Year-Old Girl’s Solo Sail Around the World | Short Film Showcase

In 2012, 14-year-old Laura Dekker embarked on a 518-day solo journey to circumnavigate the globe, aiming to become the youngest person to achieve this feat. Filmmaker Jillian Schlesinger documented her remarkable voyage, which is featured in the full-length documentary "Maidentrip."

Following the route her parents took two decades earlier through French Polynesia, Dekker successfully completed her journey. She currently holds the record as the youngest person to sail around the world by herself.
